June 2016 Newsletter

Welcome to the MARC Newsletter a publication of the Michigan Area Repeater Council. This news letter is published quarterly in conjunction with the quarterly business meetings. If you prefer the columnized version of this newsletter click here for the columnized version.

Please notice the instructions for the June electronic meeting.

President’s Column:

Great news! Four amateurs have volunteered to help the repeater council. I am happy to see these hams come forward to help out. I am in contact with them and hope to have them brought on board at the next meeting on June 4, 2016. After that, they can be shown the finer details of coordinating and de-coordinating along with the investigation and procedures that are often necessary to be fair to all parties.

It has been a very busy few months as coordination has not seemed to slow down at all. Again, if you have an application with MARC, be sure to follow through if you do not hear anything for a month. That is way longer that it normally takes for one of us to get back with you in order to answer your question or verify a TDS submission.

Please check the status of your coordination in the MARC repeater directory. If you are in the red, you are over due for a TDS update submission. These are very important to MARC. Without an update, we just don't know if you are still alive and well and on the air. It's the job of the Trustee of the repeater to keep up on the updates. Also, check out the monthly activity reports. Both of these web sites are available from the MARC home page as well.

73, Phil W8IC

Database Manager's Corner:

Roughly about 26 percent of our repeaters are overdue for a TDS submission. Trustees, please take a minute to review your entries in the MARC Repeater Directory and submit a TDS form if you find your entries listed in RED.

We are attempting to respond to every TDS form we receive by return email so you know that your form has been received and you have a copy of what was submitted. If you submitted a TDS and did not receive an email response please contact us at mail@miarc.com.

Vote taken, motion passed.
This will be printed in the next newsletter (see below) and voted on at the next meeting

Resolution #15 - December 7, 2013

Motion by Fred, W8FSM, second by Dan, N8WKM:
Add the pair 441.075 repeater input / 446.075 repeater output and 441.150 repeater input / 446.150 repeater output to the available repeater pairs for coordination by MARC. These pairs would not be coordinated in Grand Rapids because of an existing ATV coordination.
Motion passed.
----

Phil brought up a possible resolution #16, under the DOG. Discussion on proposed 40 mile clearance for adjacent channel digital splinter repeaters on 70 cm. Phil requested that a motion be made.
Dave made the motion:
MARC will coordinate digital voice repeaters with less than 9 kHz bandwidth on splinter channels on the 70 cm band, provided there is a minimum 40 mile adjacent channel mileage separation from main channel coordinated repeaters. This modifies the current 50 mile clearance on 70 cm.
Jim seconded it, vote taken, motion passed.

Adjournment:

Motion to adjourn made by Ann, seconded by Dave, motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 1:27 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Ann Manor, KT8F, Recording Secretary
