March 2022 Newsletter

Welcome to the MARC Newsletter a publication of the Michigan Area Repeater Council. This news letter is published quarterly in conjunction with the quarterly business meetings. If you prefer a non-columnized version of this newsletter click here for the wide version.

Please notice the instructions for the September electronic meeting.

President’s Update:

This March 12, 2022 quarterly MARC meeting will take place on line. Instructions on how to join in the meeting are included in this newsletter..

Numerous provisional coordinations have been extended by request of the sponsors. The delay is because of COVID19 issues. This is an unusual time and MARC can work with sponsors when unusual conditions prevent a normally routine repeater installation to take longer than normal. Be sure to submit your TDS update when you are up and running so that our records can be updated. Bob, N8ZCC, our database and coordinations compliance manager is having a hard time getting responses from many sponsors who are behind in their TDS updates. He works hard at sending out reminders, and second notices and then warnings of de-coordination. It's a difficult job and never ending. Please help Bob and MARC by renewing when you are due. Maybe setting up a schedule would help some sponsors. How about checking your status every new years day or maybe your birthday? Then once a year on your birthday or new years day you can check your status on the MARC web page under repeater directory. If you are late, renew right away then on your next birthday renew to get on your schedule if that method works for you. Many sponsors are very timely and MARC thanks you. Overdue renewals take a lot of time and energy from this volunteer organization so please help MARC and the Amateur Radio repeater community by keeping your repeater information up to date.
To renew, go to the MARC TDS Form webpage

73, Phil W8IC

Keith noted that there were 171 repeater renewals to date in 2021. Keith volunteered to gather some of these activities in the form of a report for the newsletter. This report would help the members of MARC to see more of the activities involved in the operations, and the need for volunteers.

Dave, K7DR, started a discussion regarding his operations on 223.42 and 145.590. His operations are with simplex repeaters. At this time, since there is no reported interference, it appears the operation is OK. MARC does not coordinate simplex repeaters. Phil will follow up and communicate with Dave via email.
